Verses Of A Verbsmith - The Loudness Of Silence   Posted on Feb 24, 2013    Comments ()

In October 2011, I had embarked upon an idea to write a poem a day - appending my pieces of broken glass to the multi-faceted diamonds created by poets far superior than me.

It began with a hurrah.

But the endeavour faced stumbling blocks of personal issues.

Let me start with what I had begun - with the Great Gulzar's eloquent Silence and an elegy to my loudness.

This original was published in Sulekha.com in October 2011.

Silence

by Gulzar a.k.a. Sampooran Singh Kalra

I have sighted the beautiful scent of your eyes

Do not manhandle

And attach a relationship’s stigma to it

It is pure emotion

To be explored vide the soul

Let love remain just love

Do not append a name to it

Affection isn’t

An audible term

It indeed

Is eloquent silence

Distinguished

Never extinguishable

Unstoppable

And never procrastinating

It is a droplet of light

Continuing a ceaseless flow

Since time immemorial

And

It is pure emotion

To be explored vide the soul

Let love remain just love

Do not append a name to it

As a smile blossoms in the eyes' recesses

Lighting the bent eaves of its lids

The lips utter nothing

To add footnotes

To teardrops brimming with epics

Of feelings

Yet

It is pure emotion

To be explored vide the soul

Let love remain just love

Do not append a name to it

And here is mine:

Loudness

Everything about me is loud

Glaring

White attire

Blaring

Baritone voice

Ear-splitting emotional

Argumentativeness

Uncompromising attitude

Haunting

Hurting

Haranguing

Honesty

All of them loud

My expressions of love

Written

Or

Uttered extempore

Ruminating past mistakes

Juxtaposing them

To plausible

Possible mirages of

Lady loves

Worse

Deducing them

As lovable future errors

To be cherished

Or rued later

Are instantaneous

And

Essentially loud

My soul's chides

Against my gaffes

Past and present

Physical reactions to such enlightenments

The apparent shameless openness

In voluntary guilty pleas

The public apologies

And

The inability to pretend

Abilities of divine forgiveness

Are all my visible

Inbuilt loudness

But

The realisation that silence is louder

Than loudness itself

That arrived today

Is a resounding lesson

I have begun to learn
